The AAAC 630 mm² conductor uses sixty-one 3.89 mm wires of 6201-T81 aluminium alloy, with an overall diameter of 35.01 mm, a calculated weight of 2000.7 kg/km, a rated strength of 213.9 kN and a D.C. resistance of 0.0458 Ω/km at 20 °C. It is the size typically reached for when an existing overhead line has to carry more power but the towers, foundations and wayleaves cannot be changed: replacing a smaller ACSR with this alloy conductor raises the current capacity substantially for the same or lower weight, and the strength margin is high enough to keep the existing sag and tension profiles within the clearance envelope.
Uprating Without RebuildingThe economics of a 630 mm² alloy conductor are almost always compared against the cost of a new line, and that comparison favours the conductor. Its resistance of 0.0458 Ω/km and its 809 A continuous rating under the standard conditions of 0.6 m/s wind, 1200 W/m² solar radiation, 50 °C ambient and 80 °C conductor temperature allow a substantial increase in transferred power on the existing route. Because the conductor is homogeneous, there is no steel core to corrode and no galvanic couple at the fittings, so the life extension applies to the whole assembly and not just to the outer surface. Rated strength of 213.9 kN lets the line be re-tensioned to the original design values, and the sixty-one wire construction gives a smooth surface with reduced surface stress, which matters on routes where corona and audible noise limits already constrain the design.
Manufacturing Discipline for Large Stranded ConductorsLarge conductors are less forgiving than small ones, because a lay or tension error in the outer layers shows up as conductor distortion or as strands that open when the end is cut. The 6201 alloy is produced to a controlled chemistry and heat treated to the T81 condition, with conductivity verified at 52.5 % IACS and tensile strength sampled along the coil. Wire is drawn to 3.89 mm and inspected for diameter and surface defects; anything with laps, slivers or scoring is rejected before stranding. The sixty-one wires are stranded in three concentric layers with lay length, direction and tension set for the build, and the outer layer is kept continuous with no brazed joints. Each production length is checked for diameter, lay and weight, tested for D.C. resistance, and tensile tested on the completed conductor against the 213.9 kN rating. Manufacturing follows ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001:2007 with full inspection before dispatch.

Uprating existing overhead lines without tower replacement, transmission and sub-transmission feeders where load has grown, routes constrained by wayleave or clearance limits, and replacement of corroded ACSR on coastal or industrial lines. The existing towers, fittings and clearances should be checked against the new sag and tension before work is released.
Packaging and Quality AssuranceSupplied on heavy braced drums with flange marking for model, size, stranding, length, standard and batch. Drum lengths are planned against the tension section so that joints fall at suspension points rather than in mid-span where possible.
